What others are saying about Tom:
Tom Hucker has been an effective fighter for justice in our state. He doesn't just talk the talk, he walks the walk. We need Tom Hucker in the Maryland House of Delegates. He has my full support.
-- Hon. Kweisi Mfume
A great deal of credit for progressive legislation that did pass should go to Progressive Maryland and its executive director, Tom Hucker. Overriding Governor Ehrlich's veto of the minimum wage increase as well as the Fair Share Health Care (Wal-Mart) bill were two of the most noteworthy. But PM's help in passing the Healthy Air Act and the Asian Pacific Lunar New Year holiday has been widely recognized as well. The Emergency Contraception Bill failed by only one vote on the Senate floor. Plus a long-term commitment to pass a public financing of elections bill passed through the House of Delegates and Senate Energy, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee this year and hopefully will pass through the full Senate next year.
-- Mike Tabor, Silver Spring/Takoma Voice, May 2006
Tom Hucker is a progressive leader (founder and director of Progressive Maryland) who has, as a lobbyist already gotten major legislation enacted and already knows the the key House and Senate leaders, and how to get things done in Annapolis. Tom will hit the ground running for District 20, from his first day in office, and will be an effective leader for the progressive values of our district. I am voting for Tom Hucker for Delegate in District 20 and urge others to do the same.
-- Mark Woodard Chair, Greater Silver Spring Democratic Club
Tom Hucker is a superb advocate for working families and progressive values. He would be a terrific Delegate in the General Assembly."
-- County Councilmember Tom Perez
"I worked with Tom Hucker for many years on campaigns to re-authorize and strengthen msot of our nation's key environmental laws. Tom is a great coalition-builder and a tireless advocate for the environment. Tom Hucker would be a leader and a champion in the Maryland House of Delegates."
-- Gene Karpinski, national President, League of Conservation Voters
The fiery head of Progressive Maryland [Tom Hucker] whipped the votes on the living wage bill while shining a bright spotlight on corporate loopholes that allow two out of three big companies to avoid paying any state income taxes.
-- The Gazette Winners' List, April 16, 2004
The top dogs [Tom Hucker and Sean Dobson] at Progressive Maryland have . . . provided plenty of fodder for the grist mill this year, filling in for a divided and dysfunctional Democratic Party establishment, with a report highlighting that two-thirds of Maryland 's biggest corporations don't pay any state income tax and pushing the living wage bill through a reluctant General Assembly.
-- The Gazette, Newsmakers, January 7, 2005
[Hucker] convinced legislative leaders to back closing tax loopholes that benefit corporations, special interests, and the wealthy this year.
-- The Gazette, May 9, 2003
